Back to School.. a new place to call "school"

This summer, we decided that the classroom needed to finally be, well, strategic.  I have always had Lucia toddling around while I had school time with Eva.  But, this year is the first time I have felt the responsibility of teaching the two of them for real-- Lucia started Kindergarten!  Her pre-school experience was more what I would call "Montessori"-- but really if you looked at it, it was child-led in the manner of, if Luci asked, we'd do something fun and educational.  If not, I was happy to let her play with her horses and barn on the floor beside us.

So, at the end of last year I found myself day-dreaming (yes, while Eva was reading aloud to me....) of what the room should be like. After a trip to IKEA, some paint, and lots of assembly, I'm so happy with how it turned out.  We've been at school now for a couple of weeks.  And, all I can say is, how the room works for us feels magical.  It helps our flow so well.  It offers personal spaces and places to work with the girls together.  I'm amazed that a little planning, a change in the room, and the right materials actually makes this year feel so much more smooth and do-able than any year yet!  Who said schooling more than one was crazy?  (I did... until now!)
